The Easiest Homemade Smoked Baked Beans: Post 2023
Baked Beans: Sure, you can get it from a can; but couldn’t you do better? Honestly, I never thought it was this easy. And just to think, it can all be done while you got that brisket or that pulled pork going on the smoker. What do you have to lose? This recipe came from an idea I saw on tiktok. Well, my neighbor shared it with me. Usually when he shares something with me, I take it as a personal challenge. The ingredients are simple, the process is straightforward and the results are damn delicious. Check this recipe out, and let us know in the comment section how you liked it. Also, if you think you have a better recipe, submit it in our “submit recipe” tab and we will probably try it here.
Baked Beans: Ingredients:-
- 1 lb dried navy beans
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 whole onion (white or yellow)
- 1 lb bacon
- 1 jar or bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce
- 2 cups apple juice
- ½ cup mustard
- ½ cup ketchup
- 1-2 tbsp of your favorite BBQ rub that would pair with this flavor profile
Directions:
Soak beans in room temperature water overnight. Next day, cook beans over medium high heat until tender(not mushy). Chop bacon into desired sizes. Render bacon in a skillet over medium. At this point, you can saute the onions with the bacon, or you can remove the bacon and just use the bacon grease. You can also add all that bacon fat to the beans or as much as you want. This recipe discarded the excess bacon grease. Combine all the ingredients into a pan for the smoker. Smoke in your smoker alongside the meat, 225-250 degrees until the sauce thickens.
This is a recipe you can absolutely make your own. Consider this a base and it would be totally optional to create any flavor profile whether it be savory, sweet, spicy or a combination of two or more profiles, just make sure you drop some smoke on it. For a sweet profile like we have here, preferred woods would be post oak, pecan, cherry, apple, or hickory. The wood profiles will compliment the sweetness very well.
